Nikko Yumoto Visitor Center

If you enjoy Nikko National Park, you should definitely stop by the Nikko Yumoto Visitor Center. Here you will find a wealth of information to help you enjoy the national park more deeply. The center provides detailed information on the ecology of the animals and plants you can encounter in Oku-Nikko through panels and videos. Detailed descriptions of hiking trails, including the time required and routes are also provided. Weather and traffic information is also available in real time.
Lake Yunoko
Opposite the hotel
Along with Lake Chuzenji, Lake Yunoko is one of the representative lakes of Oku-Nikko. It is a beautiful lake in the mountains, formed when the Yugawa River was blocked by the lava flow from the eruption of Mt. Mitsudake. Around the lake, which has a circumference of about 3 km, there is a thick virgin forest of conifers such as hemlock spruce and Nikko fir, and broad-leaved trees such as Hydrangea paniculata, Viburnum furcatum, and Betula ermani, which provide a spectacular view of colorful autumn leaves in the fall. There is also a walking path that circles the lakeshore, which takes about one hour to walk.
Oku-Nikko's three famous waterfalls, Yudaki

Located at the southern end of Lake Yunoko, this 70-meter-high, 110-meter-long waterfall cascades down the rock wall of the Mitsudake lava flow that created Lake Yunoko by holding back the Yugawa River. There is a viewing platform right in front of the waterfall basin, where visitors can admire the powerful sight of the waterfall. It is located on the hiking course heading north from Senjogahara, and the bus stop [Yutaki Iriguchi] is nearby.

This is a mountain stream waterfall flows down 210 meters over the lava from the eruption of Mt. Nantai and flows vigorously down a 10-meter-wide staircase of rocky terrain. Around the basin was bisected by a large rock and it looks like a dragon's head, so it is said that the name of the waterfall comes from the appearance. The view of the basin from the viewing platform is superb when autumn foliage season.
Senjogahara

Senjogahara, a lake formed by the eruption of Mt. Nantai became a vast marshland over the long years. It is one of the largest marshlands in Japan, covering an area of 400 hectares in Oku-Nikko. It is famous for its 350 native plant species and its many species of wild birds. Walking paths are maintained surround the marshland and became a hiking course that takes about two hours to complete.
Mt. Nantai

Nantai is a 2486-meter-high mountain representing the Nikko mountain range.
The lakes, waterfalls, grasslands, and wetlands that spread out at the foot of Mt. Nantai were created by the eruptive activity of Mt. Nantai, which rises on the northern shore of Lake Chuzenji, always presents a majestic appearance.
Irohazaka

A tourist road that connects Nikko-shi with Lake Chuzenji and Oku-Nikko. It is said that this road was named after the 48 sounds of the Japanese alphabet, Iroha, because there are a total of 48 sharp curves on the two slopes, the First Irohazaka slope for downhill and the Second Irohazaka slope for uphill.
In autumn, it is known as the spot in Nikko with the most beautiful autumn leaves, and makes a spectacular driving course.
Akechidaira Ropeway and Observation Deck

Akechidaira is located almost at the top of the second Iroha slope. The Akechidaira Observatory, which is 1,373 meters above sea level and only a 3-minute ropeway ride away, is one of Nikko's most popular viewing spots. A panoramic view of Mt. Nantai, Lake Chuzenji, and Kegon-no-taki Falls cascading down from Lake Chuzenji, together with the magnificent mountain ranges around the area, make for a spectacular sight. In autumn, it is also known for its beautiful autumn foliage, and visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature's formations in each of the four seasons.
Lake Chuzenji

Chuzenji Lake, located at the entrance to Oku-Nikko, has a circumference of 25 km and a maximum depth of 163 m. It is said that the original shape of the lake was formed about 20,000 years ago when the valley was blocked by lava from the eruption of Mt. Nantai. You can enjoy the appearance of the peaceful lakeside area at the foot of Mt. Nantai changing by four seasons. A sightseeing boat ride is also recommended to enjoy the scenery from the water.
Kegon Falls, one of the three most famous waterfalls in Japan

Kegon-no-taki Falls is the most famous of the 48 waterfalls that dot the Nikko area. The water from Lake Chuzenji plunges 97 meters down the cliffs, creating a spectacular waterfall where visitors can enjoy both the grandeur of nature and the beauty of the formations. The waterfall's basin, which can be viewed up close from the viewing platform accessible by elevator, is a powerful sight. You can see the dynamic sight of the water splashing down with the sound of the explosion.
British Embassy Villa Memorial Park
22 minutes drive from the hotel
With exhibits on the history of Oku-Nikko as an international summer resort and on British culture, the museum is maintained as a place where visitors can learn about the history as well as the spectacular view from the villa. Inside the museum, there is a coffee shop where visitors can enjoy tea and scones supervised by the chef of the British Embassy in Japan, and feel the atmosphere of the time when the villa was used as a former embassy villa.
Nikko Toshogu Shrine
Nikko Toshogu Shrine 45 minutes by car from the hotel
Nikko Shrines and Temples are one of Japan's most famous World Heritage sites. The most famous of these is Nikko Toshogu Shrine, where Tokugawa Ieyasu is enshrined. Comprised of 55 shrine buildings and decorated with magnificent carvings, Nikko Toshogu Shrine is a historically and culturally significant shrine that has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a must-see tourist spot if you are visiting the Nikko area.
