A spectacular waterfall falling down a 97m high cliff

Kegon Falls was designated as a national scenic spot in 1931 and was selected as one of Japan's top 100 geological sites in 2007. The view from the train window from Irohazaka, which leads to the waterfall, is also wonderful, and you can enjoy spectacular views of the changing seasons, including autumn leaves and fresh greenery. There are many waterfalls in Nikko Tochigi, and it is said that there are 48 waterfalls and 72 waterfalls in Nikko. Among them, Kegon Falls is a famous waterfall that is considered one of the three major waterfalls in Japan. In the middle, it merges with countless small waterfalls called Twelve Falls, creating a beautiful landscape where the waterfalls overlap. The magnificent scenery of the water flowing from Lake Chuzenji falling down the 97 meter high quay and the volume of water reaching 55 tons per second at peak times are astounding to those who see it. There is a Kegon Falls elevator on the north side of the Otani River, and when you get off the elevator you can see the basin of the waterfall from close to the front.

About 20 minutes by car from our hotel. Approximately 25 minutes by bus from Kohan-mae, a 3-minute walk from the hotel. Although there is a fee, the ``Kegon Falls Elevator'' allows you to enjoy the famous waterfall from a viewpoint closer to the base of the waterfall. You can fully enjoy the powerful waterfall from the front. The autumn leaves, which are usually at their best from early October to late October, are beautiful and worth a visit.

Impressed by the sight of Kegon Falls for the first time in several decades, I headed from Lake Chuzenji toward Oku-Nikko, passing through Ryuzu Falls and Senjogahara to Yutaki. Okunikko Hot springs, located on the shore of Lake Yunoko, is quiet and relaxing, and the milky white water was very pleasant, making me want to come back again.

I felt a sense of accomplishment after conquering Yutaki Falls, Ryuzu Falls, and Kegon Falls. Kamenoi Hotel's location is the best in Okunikko Hot springs.
