A paradise for seagulls watching over the fishing industry.

Kabushima Shrine
Kabushima Shrine - 2
The word "kabu" (turnip) sounds similar to "kabu" (stock), which is believed to bring good fortune in wealth.
Kabushima Shrine, which enshrines Benzaiten, is revered by locals as a guardian deity of business prosperity and fishing safety. Because the Japanese word for turnip (kabu) is pronounced the same as the Japanese word for stock (kabu), it is also said to bring good fortune in stock prices and popularity.
Furthermore, it is designated as a national natural monument as a breeding ground for black-tailed gulls, and is famous for the entire island being covered with 30,000 to 40,000 gulls during the hatching season. A 10-minute drive will take you to Ashigezaki Observatory, which was formerly used as a military facility by the Japanese army!

Hidden gems
Do you know this place?
Even our staff members from Aomori Prefecture can't help but ask, "Where is that?" when they see tourist spots.
It's called"Hachinohe Canyon"!
What's Canyon
The official name of this place is Hachinohe Limestone Mine. It's a quarry. A piece of land measuring 1,000m east-west and 1,800m north-south has been gradually eroded, creating a deep hole, and it's said to be "the place in Japan where the sky is furthest away." (Apparently, it now reaches an altitude of 170m above sea level.)
Entry into the site is prohibited, but you can view it from the mine observation deck.
