The new 10,000 yen note will be issued starting today.
The person chosen to appear on the new banknotes is Eiichi Shibusawa, the "father of modern Japanese economy" who was born in Fukaya City, next to Yorii Town.
In addition to leaving a legacy of outstanding achievements, he also led the modernization of Japan in terms of developing new industries.
He was selected for his outstanding contributions.

The former Shibusawa residence is located at the birthplace of Eiichi Shibusawa.
It was built in 1895 by Eiichi's sister and her husband, and was where he stayed and slept when he returned home.
