He played a leading role in Beppu, one of Japan’s premier hot spring destinations in Oita Prefecture, and was fondly regarded as “the Father of Beppu Tourism” and “the Founder of Japanese Tourism.”

He was proud of his large hands, and he even organized the “National Palm Contest” to use them for promoting tourism.
