Scenic spot "Ohama Palace Gardens, former Hikone Domain Matsubara Shimoyashiki"

This is a lower residence built on the shores of Lake Biwa by the 11th head of the family, Ii Naonaka, around 1810.

This is a feudal lord's garden with a different location and atmosphere from Genkyu Rakurakuen, another nationally designated place of scenic beauty.

It is one of the few gardens that incorporates water directly from Lake Biwa, and is constructed with a pond and gently undulating land.

It is a spacious stroll-style garden, and was designated a national scenic spot in March 2002 for its value as a representative feudal lord garden of the Edo period.

Thereafter, public ownership began in 2003 and was completed in 2012.
