The scenic spot ``Former Hikone Domain Matsubara Shimoyashiki (Ohama Goten) Garden'' was built around 1810 by the 11th head of the family, Ii Naonaka.
This is a feudal lord 's garden built on the shores of Lake Biwa,and has a different location and style from Genkyu Rakurakuen, another nationally designated scenic spot.
The Former Hikone Domain Matsubara Shimoyashiki (Ohama Goten) Garden
It is one of the few shioiri-style gardens that directly draws water from Lake Biwa.
It is also a leisurely strolling garden built with a pond and gentle undulations.
It was designated as a national scenic spot in March 2002 due to its value as a daimyo garden representing the Edo period.
Thereafter, public ownership began in 2003 and was completed in 2012.
