Important Notes for Your Itinerary

The Kohechi route

The Kohechi route is one of the most challenging mountain trails on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage.

As it involves crossing multiple mountain passes exceeding 1,000 meters in elevation, it is strictly recommended for those accustomed to mountain climbing and long-distance trekking.

If you plan to hike this route, please carefully arrange your accommodations, transportation, and equipment in advance.

Mountain Trails to Nachi

The Ogumotori and Kogumotori passes are long, demanding mountain trails that require significant time and distance to complete.

Please plan a reasonable itinerary that accounts for weather conditions and your physical fitness.

Accommodations Along the Trail

Accommodations in areas along the trail, such as Motomiya Hot Spring Village, Oguchi, and the Nachi-Katsuura area, are highly limited.

We strongly recommend booking your stays well in advance.

Food & Drinks

Many mountain sections have no restaurants or shops.

Please purchase lunch and beverages before starting your hike, and ensure you are fully equipped before setting off.

Local Transportation

In the southern Kii Peninsula, traveling between train stations, bus stops, and accommodations can take a considerable amount of time.

We recommend checking the latest timetables and planning your itinerary with plenty of extra time.
