Recommended autumn events: "Benkei Festival" and "Tanabe Fireworks Display"

The 38th Benkei Festival will be held on Friday, October​ ​2nd and Saturday, October 3rd, 2026.

The play "The Legend of Benkei," performed at Tokei Shrine, brilliantly recreates various legends surrounding Musashibo Benkei, who is still loved by many, as well as cockfighting, which was used to predict the outcome of battles between the Minamoto and Taira clans.

Furthermore, at the Kishu Benkei Yosakoi Dance Festival, not only local teams but also teams from outside the prefecture participate, and you can't help but be captivated by their powerful and synchronized dancing.

The Tanabe Fireworks Festival, held on the same day as the Benkei Festival, will take place on Saturday, October​ ​3rd, starting at 8:00 PM.

This year's theme is "Tanabe in Full Bloom"!

The town of Tanabe is filled with blooming flowers, and the finale is filled with dreams and hope for the future!
From plum blossoms to colorful fireworks, the climax is a magnificent barrage of golden, cascading fireworks!
The golden panoramic fireworks display stretching 1,000 meters is a truly breathtaking sight!
