  • Notice from the hotel

A statue of our founder, Kumahachi Aburaya, dressed in a local design created by a young sensibility, welcomes you in the hotel lobby.

Kamenoi Hotel is gradually installing the Kumahachi statues, and has now started an art project in which local high school students are asked to use the brand new Kumahachi statues as canvases to paint them in colors that are representative of the area!

The "Kumahachi Statue" at Kamenoi Hotel Kii-Tanabe Tanabe is currently being painted by the art club of Wakayama Prefectural Tanabe High School, and will return to the hotel on Sunday, July 6, 2025! Look forward to the local design created by this young sensibility!

Design Concept

Comment from the Art Club of Wakayama Prefectural Tanabe High School

It is inspired by Wakayama citrus fruits, which boasts the highest production volume.
In Kinan, south of Arita, domestic citrus fruits are sold at direct sales outlets all year round, and Kinan is inspired by mandarin oranges.

Art Club Leader Aimi Shiota

By coloring with local motifs, I was able to once again realize the charm of Wakayama Prefecture and Tanabe City. By incorporating oranges, plums, and the Benkei family crest, I was able to rediscover my local culture and feel proud of it. It was a very refreshing experience for me as it was not an activity I would normally do.

Kamenoi Hotel aims to be an even more appealing "local inn filled with tradition and warmth" by adding the unique value of the region to the spirit of hospitality and innovation that has been passed down since the hotel's founding.

In this project, we hope that the "Kumahachi statues" in each area will become new symbols, providing an opportunity for customers visiting Kamenoi Hotels across the country to discover new charms, and that the hotels will also become more familiar to local residents as "their town hotel."

Please look forward to the art project at Kamenoi Hotel, which has inherited the "spirit of hospitality" from Aburaya Kumahachi!
