#2 A taste of knowledge of Japan. A journey to Mount Tsukuba. A purple peak interwoven with history and nature. Mount Tsukuba is also called "Purple Peak" because the color of the mountain changes in the morning and evening. With two peaks, Mount Nantai and Mount Nyotai, it has welcomed many climbers as a mountain of faith. Mount Tsukuba itself is a sacred object, and the entire mountain can be said to be a power spot, but it is also a power spot paradise dotted with giant and oddly shaped rocks. A representative example is the "source of the Otokomi-Onna River" that flows from the top of Mount Tsukuba near Miyukigahara near the summit, and the giant tree "Shiho Cedar" that is about 800 years old and stands next to it. The sacred stone "Tachimi-ishi" near the summit of Mount Nantai is said to be where the Edo period explorer Mamiya Rinzo prayed for success in life as a boy, and it is also said to be the place where the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect, Saint Shinran, chanted the Nembutsu and saved hungry ghosts. Mount Tsukuba is dotted with various famous places and historical sites in the midst of its rich nature, and each famous place has a signboard with its origin and legend. Why not enjoy climbing while checking out each one? Mount Tsukuba has an elevation of 877m. It is the only one of Japan's 100 famous mountains in the Kanto Plain, and although it is the lowest mountain among the 100 famous mountains, you can see the whole Kanto Plain from the summit. The mountain path on the south side, which is particularly popular, is well maintained and easy to climb, and is climbed by a wide range of people from children to the elderly. There are cable cars and ropeways, and you can choose how to climb according to your physical strength, such as "walking on the way there and taking a vehicle on the way back." In addition, there are 10 diverse courses from the trailheads on the east, west, north and south. There is a wide variety of courses, such as a course that aims for the summit in the shortest distance, a course that goes around strange rocks, and a course that is good for trail running, so you will never get bored no matter how many times you come. In addition, there are courses with forest roads where you can enjoy mountain biking, making it an attractive environment for mountain bike enthusiasts. The standard route is from Tsukuba-san Shrine and Tsutsujigaoka, but once you get used to it, we recommend trying out various routes. You're sure to fall in love with Mt. Tsukuba even more.
